49 acts
highlight annual talent contest

A total of 49 acts took to the stage at the Fort Bend County
Fair Talent Contest Sunday and one person walked away with
the biggest cash prize ever given in the adult division:
$1000.
Twelve acts put it all on the line in that division and in
the end, it was a surprised Kelly-Ryan Boren who came up
with the top prize for her rendition of Carrie Underwood’s
“Before He Cheats.”
Winning $500 for second place was Renee Miura, who got the
crowd clapping to Gretchen Wilson’s “Here for the Party.”
Sarah Rosprim’s rendition of Bonnie Raitt’s “Love Me Like A
Man” took third place with $250.
Talent Contest acts were separated into four different
divisions and featured everything from baton-twirling to
dancing, instrumental performances to a barbershop quartet.
They divisions were: Junior, ages 7-10; Intermediate, 11-14;
Senior, 15-18; and Adult, 19 and over.
The juniors started of the day with eight performers.
Brendon Mak, one of only two boys in the Junior division,
won first place and $125 for his rendition of Jerry Lee
Lewis’s “Whole Lotta Shaking Going On,” complete with
keyboard.
In second place, winning $100, was Lexi Stavinoha, who wowed
the crowd with her rendition of Christina Aguilera’s “The
Voice Within.” Coming in third place and taking home $75 was
Riley Nelson, singing Jessica Andrews’ “Who I Am.”
Next up was Intermediate, which had more contestants than
any other division, with 16.
With just one working leg and sporting a cast on the other,
Savannah Schackett got the judges’ seal of approval singing
“Orange-Colored Sky.” Shackett took home $200 for first
place.
Second place was Erica Marks, whose song “Once Upon a Time”
got the crowd cheering as she hit the last note. She won
$150. Coming in third place and winning $100 was Lindsey
Petrenella, who sang Trisha Yearwood’s “Heaven, Heartache
and the Power of Love.”
The seniors were up next with 13 acts.
Hayley Beiermeister’s powerful voice won the judges over
with the show tune “Big Time” and earned her the $500 first
prize.
The runner-up slot and $250 went to Elliott Robinson,
singing Carrie Underwood’s “Last Name.” Finishing in third
place with $100 was Samantha Garcia, singing Tammy Wynette’s
“Satin Sheets.” |
