Welcome from the
President
Dear
Friends of Fort Bend County Fair:
Welcome to a New Year, its going to be a great one for the Fort Bend
County Fair! We are excited about the wonderful things in store for
the Fort Bend County Fair this year. Our theme this year surges to
provide our visitors with a greener scheme of becoming
environmentally friendly. Our past history reflects on remembering
the people and ideas that allowed us a fair to grow to where we are
today in order to provide our youth with a better tomorrow.
“Conserve our Resources, Provide for our Future” is this year’s
theme due to the Fair’s tremendous heritage that is epitomized in
our Honorees from the past, present and future. Last year alone, we
generated $708,745 from Auctions that were returned to Fort Bend
County Youth and $67,700 was given in scholarships for general,
agricultural and vocational high education endeavors. Fort Bend
County benefits directly from the Fair’s investment in its youth.
This year, in order for us to progress forward, we need to protect
our resources. Our goal is to move towards utilizing more recyclable
items and encourage our visitors to recycle. Trashcans with the
recycling logo will be available throughout the grounds. We are
hoping to recycle aluminum cans, cardboard, plastic cups, grease and
animal matter. Through this effort, we will save money allowing more
to be given to our youth.
Last years changes in ticketing procedures were a success overall,
our partnership with the ticketing company will bring success in the
future and bring more efficiency to the system. The wonderful new
gatekeepers committee worked hard to maintain traffic flow and bring
efficiency to the entrances. You will see more options with online
ticketing this year which can be directed to individual Queen
Candidates as well as the continued ability to buy individual
tickets presale.
Events for the Fair begin with the Style Show on August 28, 2010.
Come out and see the Queen Candidates and local celebrities “Strut
their Stuff” at Safari Texas. Last year Grapes on the Brazos moved
to a new venue and was standing room only for much of the Fair. It
will be exciting to see what they have planned for this year. The
recently expanded pavilion opened up additional area for those
wanting to enjoy and watch the Entertainment. Rumor has it that we
will be showcasing great talent again this year. Stay Tuned for the
announcements….. The move of Senior Citizens Day to the Monday
preceding the Fair made for a successful event as well.
September will be here sooner than you realize. Get your boots, hats
and jeans ready to come celebrate a fantastic fair. We will be ready
with Auctions, the Carnival, Entertainment, Rodeo and all the food,
fun and excitement of the 74th Annual Fort Bend County Fair.
A special thanks in advance to my office staff who has to put up
with my second job, and to Carl, my “First Dude” who puts up with
late night meetings, attending events constantly and being drafted
to Parking Lot duty. There is no way I could do this job without his
love and support.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth
